TIME on Sachin

Time Magazine on Sachin Tendulkar`s Journey.

“When Sachin Tendulkar travelled to Pakistan to face one of the finest bowling attacks ever assembled in cricket, Michael Schumacher was yet to race a F1 car, Lance Armstrong had never been to the Tour de France, Diego Maradona was still the captain of a world champion Argentina team, Pete Sampras had never won a Grand Slam.

When Tendulkar embarked on a glorious career taming Imran and company, Roger Federer was a name unheard of; Lionel Messi was in his nappies, Usain Bolt was an unknown kid in the Jamaican backwaters. The Berlin Wall was still intact, USSR was one big, big country, Dr Manmohan Singh was yet to “open” the Nehruvian economy.

It seems while Time was having his toll on every individual on the face of this planet, he excused one man. Time stands frozen in front of Sachin Tendulkar. We have had champions, we have had legends, but we have never had another Sachin Tendulkar and we never will.”

What a fitting tribute to the living legend. He is one of the reason why I feel proud to be Indian.

  1. It’s anyone’s guess, The Cause:-manufactured altercation or semantic disapproval. The effect is largely agreed by everyone as regressive, so that’s not a debate I reckon. It’s the combination of smart timing of statement and the human nature to draw correlation that has resulted in the kind of media bytes. SRK gets a vote from me for a couple of reasons:-
    1) The entire episode stirred people’s minds and churned relevant discussions(democracy, patriotism, politics..) across the board(verbal, e-mail, online, broadcast) which would have otherwise been involved in trivial talk. This has helped in orientation of young minds.

    2) The benefits to the real economy. Value generation in spaces such as Print, Broadcast, Ad, Movie, Multiplex, etc. someone told me Indo-Pak trade actually picked up post this episode.

Topic suggestion for next Blog:- “A Day in the lyfe of an Equity Advisor”

    • apologies for wrong link…

Sachin truly makes us proud Indians… His legend has survived the Fall of Berlin wall, Tiananmen Square massacre, Gulf war, collapse of soviet union, Indo-pak Nuke testing, Kargil war, 9-11, NDA, UPA….The game has undergone nourishment and enrichment over the years and Sachin has been a big reason….

The game is always greater than the player but if any player comes close it will be Sachin… Test 400 and World cup victory are probably the only stars that have eluded the master’s badge… May the legend and his exploits play on for ages….
